Charlotte Motor Speedway
Charlotte, North Carolina
First race: 1960
Number of laps: 334
Distance: 501 miles (806.3 km)
Def Champion: Matt Kenseth
The Bank of America 500 or the Banking 500 is hosted at Charlotte Motor Speedway (formerly Lowe’s Motor Speedway) which is known as the “The Beast of the Southeast”.
Even though a big part of the Chase for the Sprint Cup is the prestige and bragging rights that go with a championship, it’s also about the money. That’s why it’s fitting that one of the races in the Chase is the NASCAR Banking 500, previously known as the Bank of America 500.
The race was jointly sponsored by General Motors and the United Auto Worker until 2005 and was then known as the UAW-GM Quality 500. After, 2005 ‘Bank of America’ became the new sponsor in Early 2006 and hence the new name for this race is now called "Bank 500".
2011 Bank of America 500 Results
Matt Kenseth wins 2011 Bank of America 500. Kenseth took the lead from Kyle Busch on the last restart of the evening with fewer than 15 laps to go. Kenseth claimed his third win of the year and moved up to third in points in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase for the Sprint Cup. Busch finished second and held off a late race challenge by third-place finisher Carl Edwards.
2010 Bank of America 500 Results
Jamie McMurray battled past Kyle Busch on the final restart of the 2010 Bank of America 500. McMurray won his third race of the year, and added the Charlotte fall race to his impressive non-Chase record of 2010. Busch finished second after dominating the race and leading 217 of the 334 laps. But Busch had to hold off a determined challenge in the final laps from Jimmie Johnson, who finished third.
