Pure Michigan 400 (Carfax 400, 3M Performance 400) is the final NASCAR race of the season held at the Michigan International Speedway located in Brooklyn, Michigan.
The Pure Michigan 400 has been referred to previously as: Carfax 400, the Miller High Life 400, the Miller Genuine Draft 400, the K-Mart 400, and in 2005, the Batman Begins 400. The excitement of a car race, however, remains the same.
The Pure Michigan 400 is one of the two NASCAR Sprint Cup races run at one of the sport’s fastest ovals, Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Although there is nothing particularly unique about the configuration of Michigan International, the two-mile superspeedway allows drivers to easily exceed 200 mph and that makes for some of the most thrilling races on the NASCAR schedule.
This race came into being in 1969 when it was run at a length of 600 miles. It was dropped to a 400 mile race soon after. By 1973, new owners stopped running the NASCAR race and exchanged it for the IndyCar. The 2007 year saw changes again in the name of the race when it was changed to the 3 M Performance 400 as the 3 M company started to be a sponsor to this race. The Previous sponsor was Citizens Bank.
Odds to Win 2012 Pure Michigan 400
2011 Pure Michigan 400 Winner
Kyle Busch outlasted Jimmie Johnson on 2011 Pure Michigan 400 in a green-white-checkered finish at Michigan International Speedway, winning his fourth Cup race of the year. Busch leads the series standings by 10 points over Johnson and is assured of a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
2010 Carfax 400 Winner
Kevin Harvick found Gatorade Victory Lane and celebrated his first Sprint Cup Series win at MIS. His only other victory at MIS was in a Nationwide Series race in 2003. Harvick battled past Denny Hamlin with 11 laps to go on the two-mile track and pulled away for his third victory of the year. In winning, Harvick also became the first driver to qualify for the Chase.
2009 Carfax 400 Winner
For the second time in 2009 Jimmie Johnson held the lead in the closing laps at Michigan and came up short on fuel. This time it was Brian Vickers who was running second with three laps to go and made it to the checkers for the win in the 2009 CARFAX 400. The rest of the top five qualifiers were Mark Martin, Juan Montoya, Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr.
