Richmond International Raceway is always one of the
most thrilling venues on the schedule, and being the
last race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Formerly known as Strawberry Hill, this tri-oval
track is three quarters of a mile in length and the
unique layout traditionally
produces exciting side-by-side racing, yet drivers
reach high enough speeds for a superspeedway feel. |
 |
As the race is rock and roll
themed, the trophy is in the form of a custom painted
electric guitar, while select cars are run with special
paint schemes that promote rock music artists.
This annual race, the last in the circuit's "regular
season," is the final opportunity for drivers to secure
a spot in the all-important Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Only the top 12 drivers in the point standings will be
eligible to win the series championship, which is
decided over the final 10 races of the season.
