Sonoma Infineon Raceway
Sears Point in Sonoma, California
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Current Champion: Kurt Busc
The unique racetrack design makes the Toyota/Save Mart 350 a conversational item as it is under debate as to whether it is a good or bad course.
Sonoma Infineon Raceway is one of the premier road racing venues in the country - an experience unmatched on the Sprint Cup circuit. Opened in 1968, it serves as the gateway to the beautiful Sonoma Valley, one of the top wine-producing regions in the world.
The Toyota Savemart 350 at Infineon Raceway may be different and controversial, but maybe that’s why NASCAR fans love it so much. While experts may decry its course length and configuration, it is one of the most popular NASCAR races around.
Within the race itself, you will find some drivers that are not typical of NASCAR as this is a popular event for road course drivers. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 is one of only two Sprint Cup races run on a non-oval track. With 10 turns over 1.99 miles of track, this is one of the more unique races on the circuit. The NASCAR Sprint Cup series only makes it to Northern California once a year.
Originally known as the Banquet 300, the race was held for the first time in 1989 as the replacement for the Budweiser 400 at the old Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California. Since then the Toyota/SaveMart 350 has undergone multiple name and length changes over the years.
Jeff Gordon is truly the undisputed king of this NASCAR road race, with five pole positions (1998-99, 2001, 2004-05) and five victories (1998-2000, 2004, 2006), the most of any driver. Notably, and seemingly no coincidence, Gordon is also the all-time NASCAR leader with a total of nine road-course victories throughout his career.
